I heard the weirdest thing yesterday.. Me and Marina talked in msn late in the evening and she told me how she had confronted mum about our real grandad, the one we never met and who we know is dead, so there's not even a chance to meet him. She told me the weirdest thing EVER. You know that my mum was an illegitimate child? In Finland in the 50s having a kid like that would've been a scandal, so granny lied to some other man that it was his child because she had to get married to save her reputation, but he found out that mum wasn't his child and.. you know the story. The real father was already married, I think, and wasn't going to marry my granny. Anyway, like I said, you know the story. I thought I knew it too, but there was a twist that mum never bothered to tell any of us kids. Her real father wasn't Finnish. Yeah, she's only half Finnish, and that makes me only 1/4 Finnish! To me it's just... I dunno, it's a big deal. I always thought I'm Finnish, like, more than I'm Serbian. And now I hear that I'm actually more Serbian than Finnish! Granny told mum that the man, mum's real father, was British but for some reason mum doesn't believe her (she has her reasons). She told Marina that she has her own suspicions about the man's real nationality, but she's sure that he wasn't Finnish. It's possible that he was American, but I guess you can't know it for sure..
It's actually a bit creepy. Everything's turned upside down in one sentence. I remember how mum once told me she knows almost surely who her real dad is, so shouldn't she then know his nationality? She said that granny was drunk when she told her the assumed real father's name. I'm pretty sure he can't be Spanish or some other.. darker type, because mum herself was blonde as a child and had blue eyes, just like all of us kids (except the annoying brother who has almost black hair and green eyes), and her features aren't just.. that southern. But like Marina said, mum doesn't look that Finnish. Everything starts making sense suddenly but I'm not satisfied with just knowing that I'm 1/2 Serbian and 1/4 Finnish, I want to know what the last 1/4 is. I need to know it, but how can I if even mum isn't sure about it (and doesn't want to tell) and both granny and the grandad I never met are dead?
